Treatment:

Jock itch can generally be treated with over the counter anti fungal ointments that do not require a prescription. There are basically two types of ointments that are used to treat jock itch, azoles and allylamines. Allylamines are generally the best treatment for jock itch as they take a shorter period of time to treat the infection whereas azoles take a much longer time. Allylamines contain terbinafine or naftifine whereas azoles contain miconazole or clotrimazole. Brands which sell these ointments include Lomisil, Lotrimin, and Micatin. The label on these ointments should provide details on how to use it and how much to apply to the infected area. The product will also tell you for how long you should apply the ointment so do not stop using it even if your infection improves. If your jock itch does not improve even after 14 to 15 days of applying an anti fungal ointment, you would need to see a doctor.

Your doctor may then recommend a stronger topical ointment such as Econozale or oral medications such as fluconazole. Oral medications however may cause certain side effects such as altered liver function. headache, lower white blood cell count and rashes.
